Political party MQM face restrictions experts suggest seems likely might be banned. The experts further claim that without a proper imposition of the article 17.

It now seems likely that Muttahida Quomi Movement (MQM) party may face restrictions and a ban, experts suggest.

The experts further claim that without a proper imposition of the article 17(2), the sealing of the party’s offices could challenged in the court of law.

Article 17 of the Constitution proclaims the freedom of association and forming political parties as a fundamental right guaranteed to the citizens.

Whereas clause 2 places the power to impose reasonable restrictions on said rights given they act against the state.

The experts further explained that the final say in the imposition of said article lies in the hands of the Supreme Court.

It  also noted that the party registered under the name of member Farooq Sattar in the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah said that whoever talks in favour of MQM founder would regarded as anti-Pakistan.

However, he clarified that he not in favour of MQM banned in Pakistan as it would create further issues.

“We are not in favour of banning MQM. Party has the mandate of the people and it has also disassociated itself from its founder”,

said the opposition leader talking to media in Islamabad.

“MQM give time, in six months everything would cleared”, he added.

He said that banning MQM would not be a wise move and would not be in favour of the country.
