The proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the United States incites hatred and violence against those who already live there.

Imagine there was a southern US talk show host who liked fomenting race hate.

Broadcasting beneath the blanket of protection afforded him by the first amendment.

His show enjoyed national syndication, and had a small, but fanatical following.

It touched all the hot button far-right issues. Anti-abortion. Anti-gun control. Some good-ole-boy misogyny.

And racism. Its host was thoroughly, irredeemably, unashamedly racist.

“The blacks” – he liked to use the term pejoratively – “have got out of control”, he would rage.

Every week he’d open his show by citing a recent high profile example of crime perpetrated by a black assailant against a white victim.

“Enough is enough!” he would bellow across the airwaves.

We need a total and complete shutdown on our blacks until we understand what the hell is wrong with them! They are out of control!”.

Then one day he announced his intention to bring a version of his show to the UK.

“The blacks are out of control in England too,” he warned.

We have places in London and other places that are so dangerous that the police are afraid for their own lives.”

What would we do? How would we react? I think it’s fairly obvious how we’d react. We would ban him.

In fact, we have banned him. Or people very similar to him. In June 2013 two prominent US bloggers – Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer.

Who had founded an organisation Stop Islamisation of America announced they were coming to the UK to participate in an English Defence League march.

It had been organised in the wake of the murder of Lee Rigby.

Theresa May decided they should be refused entry to the UK. In a statement the Home Office said:

The Home Secretary will seek to exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good.

We condemn all those whose behaviours and views run counter to our shared values and will not stand for extremism in any form.”

It is hard to see what possible public good would currently be served by Donald Trump’s presence in the UK.

Not that he would necessarily want to come, given all those crazed Jihadists running amok on our streets.

Whenever anyone says something somebody doesn’t like, the call goes out “ban them!” It’s a call Trump himself echoed with his demand all Muslims be prevented from entering the US.

But what we have just witnessed is not just another attention-seeking rant from a Republican hopeful.

Who is trying to secure definition in a crowded primary field. What Trump has done is effectively call for a race war.

Think of what actually said. In his view members of the Muslim community are now so dangerous to non-Muslim members of the community.

That their presence can literally no longer tolerated.

Not just Muslims who are foreign nationals. But Muslims who are American citizens.

To even let them set foot in the United States would, in Trump’s view, represent a clear and present threat to US national security.

And, given his comments on the threat to London and Paris, it appears he believes that same principle applies to UK national security.

Every man, every woman, every child who a Muslim is so inherently dangerous they cannot permitted to walk amongst us. We must shut them out.

As many of them as we physically can.

This is not a Hollywood script. Or a novel. Nor it a caricature dreamt up by the liberal Left.

It an actual policy position put forward by the man who is currently the presumptive Republican party nominee for president of the United States.

And what the implications of that policy position – not its implementation, but its mere articulation – for those Muslims who can’t be shut out?

Those Muslims who already walk among us?

They are, according to Donald Trump, a national security threat.

A threat so grave it requires the fundamentals of the US constitution to shredded in front of our eyes.

They represent a threat to our lives, our children’s lives, our very way of life. Yet here they are. Beside us.

The ones who snuck in. The ones we haven’t able to shut out until we figure what needs to be done about them.

How we supposed to react when we come across one of these “out of control” Muslims?

Does he expect us to react? How does Donald Trump want us to react?

One of the most popular TV shows in the US at the moment an alternative history drama called

The Man In The High Castle.

It set in a world in which the Allies lost the second world war, and America lives under a fascist dictatorship.

Donald Trump wants to be the man in the high castle. Ban him. Ban him now.
